An in depth look into the book of Revelation
Questions About Revelation?
Many things are said about this book in the popular press today, but how accurate are they?
What was John trying to convey through this unusual work? How should John’s message affect our lives today?

Join us for this Sunday School hour class, recorded live and taught by our Senior Minister, Eric G. Evans.

This class is intentionally comprehensive and builds on itself. We begin with several weeks of background study into the socio-political and religious context of the time when John wrote this wonderful work. It will be hard to understand the mode of study if you just pick a session at random. It is highly recommended that you begin with the first class and take each session in order.

This class was taught and recorded live. If you live in the Roanoke Valley, we would love for you to come by and worship with us. Study guides are available for each class, contact us here churchofchristsalem@comcast.net and we will gladly send them to you. If you would like to send feedback or have a question you can contact Preacher Eric at preacherericscc@aol.com

{5/28/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

We come to the second interlude in the action, the "calm before the storm," when the seventh trumpet is sounded. Though there is a pause, there are still things for us to learn.

For proper context and understanding, please begin at the beginning.

Revelation 11:1-19 Interlude Part 2

{6/11/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

Continuing in the Interlude, John talks of temples, witnesses, olive trees and lampstands. These are metaphors for some great truths.

It is highly recommended that you begin with the first class and take each session in order.

Revelation 12:1-17 Birth, Opposition & Defeat

{6/18/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

As John starts the second cycle, this is a good place for us to review and remember our method of study for this class.

The NIV titles this section, The Woman and the Dragon, pointing our the metaphors, but saying nothing of their meaning. As Preacher Eric explains, the meaning is really very easy for us to grasp.

This study builds on itself. Please start with the first class and take each session in order.

Revelation 12:1-17 Birth, Opposition & Defeat, Pt 2

{6/25/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

After a humorous professorial glitch, we continue to look at chapter 12:13-17. If you are not already confused, John shifts the images again. However, stick with us, and you will gain better understanding by the end of the lesson.

It is highly recommended that you begin with the first class and take each session in order.

Revelation 13:1-18 The Bests of the Sea and Earth, Pt 1

{7//2/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

We are introduced to two more mythological entities that play upon the canvas of John’s mind. How are they related to the dragon? Do the crowns mentioned give us a clue as who they represent?

Please start this study at the beginning. Thanks!

Revelation 13:1-18 The Bests of the Sea and Earth, Pt 2

{7/9/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

We continue our look into chapter 13. What is the significance of 666? What is the mark of the beast? How could a beast with a fatal wound be healed?

Be sure you start this study at the beginning. Your questions may already have answers

Revelation 14 The Faithful, Pt 1

{7/16/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

After talking about the persecutors of Christ and his church, John goes into an interlude in order to reassure the church in Asia Minor that regardless of how powerful and frightful the oppressors may seem, they are not the ultimate victors.

This study builds on itself. Please start with the first class and take each session in order.

Revelation 14 The Faithful, Pt 2

{7/23/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

Continuing in chapter 14, John tells us that the message coming judgment will be ‘eternal gospel,’ or good news. How can impending judgment be good news?

This study builds on itself. Please start with the first class and take each session in order.

Revelation 15-16 – Seven Plagues

{8/6/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

As we come into the final cycle of judgment in John’s revelation, we see seven messengers bringing “seven last plagues – last, because with them God’s judgment is completed [15:1].” What is the Song of Moses? When was it originally sung? How is it like the Song of the Lamb? What is the focus of each of these songs? Who, or what, or where is ‘Armageddon’?

This study builds on itself. Please start with the 1st lesson titled Revelation Intro Part 1 at the top of the page.

Revelation 17 Woman On the Beast

{8/13/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

John introduces us to a new image, yet with our previous study as a guide, the symbolism if fairly easy to discern, when we utilize “a mind with wisdom.”

Please start this study at the beginning. Thanks!

Revelation 18 – Mourning for the City

{8/20/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

In chapter 18, John depicts the beast turning on the prostitute. We are reminded of an evil queen from days gone by who was also defiant to the bitter end. This time of mourning and grief is also a time of victory.

With this study, it is best to start at the very beginning. I hear that it is a very good place to start

Revelation 19 – Praise Ye the Lord!

{8/27/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

The great lament in chapter 18 is contrasted by great praise of chapter 19 happening in heaven. The mention of the wedding feast is a signal that things are drawing to the close; the climax of the drama is close at hand.

For proper context and understanding, please begin at the beginning.

Revelation 20 – Judgment, Pt 1

{9/3/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

Returning the theme of judgment, John borrows heavily from Ezekiel 37-38. What is “the first resurrection”? Who does it involve? And when does it take place? Who, or what, are Gog and Magog? Are the two one thousand year periods mentioned concurrent, or consecutive? How is “one thousand” used throughout scripture?

Be sure you start this study at the beginning. This study builds on itself. Start with the 1st lesson titled Revelation Intro Part 1 at the top of the page.

Revelation 20 – Judgment, Pt 2

{9/10/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

This week we take time to look at the three major views of the millennial periods mentioned in Revelation 20. We are talking about differences in scripture interpretation, not about the salvation of any who hold to any particular view. There are good, God fearing, Christ loving people who hold to each view. This area of interpretation is not so much a problem to be solved, as it is a tension to be managed.

This study builds on itself. Please start with the 1st lesson titled Revelation Intro Part 1 at the top of the page.

Revelation 20 – Judgment, Pt 3

{9/17/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

We begin with a quick recap of the three prominent views of millennial theology. Who is John Nelson Darby, and what does he have to do with Rapture theology?  Where does The Antichrist come into play? Where are these terms in the other biblical writings? How are they used?

Please start this study at the beginning. Thanks!

Revelation 20 – Judgment, Pt 4

{9/24/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

In wrapping down 20:11-14, we return to looking at the “books” that are opened. What do they have to do with judgment, and Jewish tradition? Most importantly, what is it, specifically, by which all mankind will be judged?

With this study, it is best to start at the very beginning. I hear that it is a very good place to start.

Revelation 21:1-22:6 The Holy City of God

{10/1/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

John sends us right back up to heaven, giving us a glorious glimpse of what awaits those who faithfully serve God as Lord. Yet, is John describing the place of heaven, or something else?

It is highly recommended that you begin with the first class and take each session in order.

Revelation 22:7-21 Jesus IS Coming

{10/8/17} Eric G Evans speaking.

As we wrap up this study of the book of Revelation, John reminds us that Christ is coming soon. Thank you for sticking with us through this study. May God bless you as you seek to serve Him, and Him alone.

It is highly recommended that you begin with the first class and take each session in order.
