Family Life Minister

Salem Church of Christ is in search of a Family Life Minister. We are church of around 120 members with a small youth group and vision to grow our church to richly impact our community for Jesus. We are a church in transition; mission driven and forward focused. The purpose of this position is to provide for the spiritual nourishment and guidance of our students and their families. Additionally, the FLM will work with, enhance, and provide leadership for the worship team. This position will report directly to the elders with the oversight of the Pulpit Minister.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE

Personality

  1. The right candidate will be very good at time management.

  2. A problem solver who is able to think ahead to consider future needs. 

  3. Good at working independently and delegating to volunteers when appropriate. 

  4. Joyful and positive in difficult situations. You are blessed, and you must live and teach that truth.

  5. High ‘Social IQ’. A broad range of ages and personalities can be comfortable around the candidate. 


Spiritually

  1. Adheres to standard Restoration Movement beliefs.

  2. Believes Scripture to be inerrant, and the ultimate authority to which we submit.

  3. Has a strong personal relationship with God. This includes a strong commitment to prayer and study of God’s word.

  4. Mission minded with a desire to work alongside the Holy Spirit to foster an environment for spiritual and numeric growth. 


Educationally

  1. A degree in Youth Ministry, Bible, etc. from an accredited Christian university.

  2. Some proficiency in reading music or experience leading worship.


Compensation 

  1. Compensation will be commensurate with experience starting at $35,000.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Teaching

  1. Weekly youth classes will be taught. This includes Sundays and Wednesdays.

    1. All teaching is expected to be relatable to the audience, challenging, and theologically sound. 

    2. Teaching may be in the form of Bible Classes, Life Groups, or other settings.

  2. Occasional preaching will be expected from this position. Approximately 4-5 times per calendar year.


Relationship Building 

  1. Must be willing and able to build strong rapport with a diversity of students and adult personalities at the church.

  2. Must be willing to attend student activities: Sports, Choir shows, Theater, etc.

  3. Must be willing to visit with students and parents outside of church for counseling, and to demonstrate genuine interest in them.

  4. Must be a team player. Flexibility is key. 


Events 

  1. Must be willing to organize, communicate and lead multiple youth events throughout the calendar year. 

    1. Some events will be day events, some will be overnight events. 

  2. This position requires involvement in leading a week of camp at Blue Ridge Christian Camp each Summer.

  3. As new church events are discussed and presented, the right candidate would be willing to assist as needed.


Leadership 

  1. The right applicant will have a willingness to develop support from members of the church to assist the Youth Ministry. 

  2. The applicant must be willing to embrace a discipleship mindset in leadership. They should always be working to develop students into leaders and incorporate them into leadership positions as often as possible. 

  3. Must be willing to embrace and support the Vision and Mission of the Salem Church of Christ.


Worship 

  1. The ideal applicant will have a musical background and the ability to help organize and support our existing Worship Team. 

    1. Selecting and providing music to the team each week that will fit our church and it’s direction. 

    2. Helping to lead the Thursday evening practices each week.

    3. Singing/Playing with our Worship team most Sundays.


Meetings 

  1. As a part of the church staff, the FLM will be expected to attend short, weekly Monday meetings with the other staff members.

  2. The FLM will also be expected to attend monthly leadership meetings along with the church Elders and Deacons.
