Missions Ministry – THAILAND MISSION
SCOC has always been a mission-minded church, a mission-focused church, and a mission-successful church. Missionary support has been a central ministry for many years. Our faith promise goal for 2011 is $70,000. Mike and Debbie returned to the mission field in Thailand in January 2007. They both teach courses at Lanna Theological Center, a merger of two brotherhood schools which included Chiangmai Bible Institute, where they previously served. They also do volunteer work with approximately 200 orphans and children at risk and minister among college students and widows. Mike also visits and preaches in mens’ and womens’ prison as well as youth detention centers in Northern Thailand. A major part of their ministry in the North is village evangelism where teams go out to share the Gospel with various tribal groups. The Salem Church of Christ has become their living link church.
Missionaries Jerry & Pam Headen serve with a team in the Sansai district of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Along with a desire to share the gospel with the Thai people, they lead a ministry which serves people with HIV/AIDS, those affected by HIV/AIDS and other disadvantaged people in Thai society. Their work with people with AIDS and their families grew out of a conviction that the church is in the world as a sign and foretaste of the Kingdom of God; therefore the meaning of the gospel must be illustrated through lives of service which accompany its verbal proclamation.
